Part 2 of my patch day posts will cover Warlock and Shadowpriest changes. The global game changes were covered in Part 1 earlier today.

Shadowpriest Changes.

  • Improved Shadow Word: Pain now increases it’s total damage by 5%/10% rather than increasing the duration.
  • Levitate now costs 3% of base mana.
  • Mind Control is now only 1 rank and costs 12% of your base mana.
  • Mind Soothe is now only 1 rank and costs 6% of your base mana.
  • Mind Vision now costs 3% of your base mana.
  • Mind Flay can now critically hit and has had it’s damage coefficient increased by 30%.
  • Spirit Tap is now a 3 point talent instead of 5.
  • Improved Spirit Tap is a new 2 point talent giving a 50/100% chance to gain a 50% bonus to your spirit for 8 seconds, after a critical Mind Blast or Shadow Word: Death spell. For the duration, you will continue to regenerate mana at a 25% rate while casting.
  • Twin Faiths is a new Discipline talent increasing damage and healing by 5%.
  • Psychic Scream now costs 15% of your base mana.
  • Shackle Undead now costs 9% of your base mana.
  • Shadow Focus is now a 3 point talent, down from 5, and increases the chance to hit with Shadow spells by 1/2/3% down from 10%. Shadow Focus also reduces the mana cost of Shadow spells by 2/4/6%.
  • Shadow Resilience now reduces all physical damage taken by 4% and no longer reduces the chance to be critically hit.
  • Shadowform has been given a shapeshift UI and now also reduces threat generated by 30%.
  • Silence no longer triggers the global cooldown.
  • Twisted Faith will now work when the target is under the effect of Shadow Word: Pain instead of Mind Flay.
  • Wand Specialization has been removed.

Warlock Changes.

  • Aftermath is now a 2 point talent, down from 5.
  • All Demon Trainers will be removed from the game. All demon spells and abilities will automatically be learned as the pet gains levels.

  • Cataclysm now also increases the chance to hit with Destruction spells by 1% per point.
  • Chaos Bolt is now classified as fire damage.
  • Conflagrate can now only be cast on targets affected by Shadowflame. (Considering you don’t get this spell until 75, I think this is a typo. On the PTR you can use Conflag on targets affected by Immolate AND Shadowflame. I’ll clarify this later.)
  • Consume Shadows (Voidwalker) duration reduced to 6 seconds and the effect has increased by 66%. In addition, any nearby allies will have their stealth detection greatly increased during the channeling of the spell.
  • Curse of Doom now has a 100% chance to summon a Doomguard if the target was killed by the spell and yeilds XP or honor.
  • Doomguards health has been increased by 20% and mana increased by 24%.
  • Curse of Recklessness will no longer prevent fear effects but will still disable NPC targets from fleeing at low health.
  • Dark Pact now restores 200% of the mana drained from your pet, up from 100%. Dark Pact no longer works on enslaved demons.
  • Demon Armor now increases the amount of healing done by spells and effects by 20% and no longer has passive health regen.
  • Demon Skin, Demon Armor and Fel Armor are no longer magic effects and can no longer be dispelled.
  • Demonic Circle now lasts for 6 minutes.
  • Demonic Sacrifice buffs have changed. Succubus & Imp effect reduced to 10% (down from 15%). Felguard now increases Fire and Shadow damage instead of just Shadow.
  • Drain Soul now causes 4x damage while the target is at or below 25% health.
  • Everlasting Affliction will now affect Haunt instead of Shadow Bolt.
  • Emberstorm now reduces the cast time of Incinerate by 0.1 second per point as a 5 point talent.
  • Fel Armor now increases your spellpower equal to 30% of your total spirit. No longer increases healing effects.
  • Felguards health increased by 10%.
  • Felhunters Tainted Blood and Paranoia have been replaced with Fel Intelligence and Shadow Bite.
  • Fel Intelligence (Felhunter) – Increases Intellect and Spirit of party/raid members by 3%.
  • Shadow Bite (Felhunter) – Deals X amount of Shadow damage and an additional 5% DoT. 6 second cooldown.
  • Fel Intellect and Fel Stamina have merged in to one talent – Fel Vitality.
  • Haunt will now heal for 100%.
  • Howl of Terror now costs 15% of your base mana.
  • Infernal spell changed. Cooldown reduced to 15 minutes and duration reduced to 1 minute. Infernals health increased by 30%, armor increased by 30% and damage increased by 60%.
  • Imp’s health increased by 20%, armor increased by 16% and mana regen increased by 200%.
  • Improved Curse of Weakness replaced by the new 2 point talent Frailty. Increases the amount of attack power reduced by Curse of Weakness and the armor reduced by Curse of Recklessness by 10/20%.

  • Improved Lash of Pain and Improved Firebolt have merged in to one talent – Demonic Power.
  • Improved Shadow Bolt now increases damage done by your next shadow spells by 3/6/9/12/15% down from 4/8/12/16/20%.
  • Master Demonologist effects changed. Felguard now increases your damage done by 5% and reduces damage done to you by 5%. Imp now increases fire damage done and fire crit chance by 5%. Succubus now increases shadow damage done and shadow crit chance by 5%.
  • Nether Protection reworked to give a 10/20/30% chance when hit by a spell to reduce the damage received by that school by 60% for 10 seconds.
  • Demonic Empowerment – New Demonology talent granting your summoned demon a power for a short time. (Power list not given in patch notes).
  • Eradication – New 3 point Affliction talent giving your Corruption, Siphon Life and Curse of Agony ticks a 5/10/15% chance to increase your spell haste by 20% for 8 seconds. Cannot occur more than once every 10 seconds.
  • Improved Felhunter – New 2 point Affliction talent giving your Felhunter 50/100% of the damage done by Shadow Bite back as mana and increasing the effectiveness of Fel Intelligence by 1/2%.

  • Pyroclasm now affects Conflagrate.

  • Shadowfury is now an instant cast and the stun duration has been increased to 3 seconds, up from 2.
  • Soul Link is now an 11 point talent, down from a 31 point talent, in Demonology. The 5% damage increase has been removed and the damage mitigation has been reduced to 15%, down from 20%.
  • Soul Siphon now increases the damage of Drain Soul as well.
  • Soulstone will now create a log entry indicating who conjured the stone and who received it.
  • Spell Lock (Felhunter) global cooldown removed.
  • Succubus has had her health increased by 20% and armor increased by 22%.
  • Summon Dreadsteed/Felsteed mana cost and global cooldown removed.
  • Suppression is now a 3 point talent, down from 5, increasing your chance to hit with Affliction spells by 1/2/3%.
  • Unstable Affliction has had its silence effect reduced to 3 seconds, down from 5.
  • Voidwalkers health increased by 20%, damage output increased by 16% and the attack power gained from it’s masters spellpower has increased by 45%.

The Warlock changes look much longer because I didn’t include any Holy changes and left out a majority of the Discipline changes as well.

Affliction is looking really sweet so far but I’m still tempted to try out Metamorphosis at least once. With the most recent addition of Devouring Plague to all priests at a much lower cooldown, alongside the nerf of VT, I’m leaning towards following Misery’s advice and grabbing Improved Shadowform and going down in Disc for Divine Spirit (maybe even Improved if I notice my damage isn’t being reduced that much). It all depends on how poor mana regen is at the start of level 80 raiding.

I’ll be making another post with more specific talent change and new spell information at a later date but for now, I think 2 wall of text posts are enough for one day ;) .

3.0 is live!

So what does that mean for us WoW players?

Global Changes

  • All players will have their talent points reimbursed and will have access to new talents throughout their trees; this includes the 51-point talents. Several new spells and abilities have been added for all classes. Players will need to visit their class trainer to learn new spells.
  • The Barber Shop has been implemented and you can now visit one of the Barber Shops in the major cities to change your appearance. Be sure to get your Shave and a Haircut!
  • The all new Achievement System has been implemented and the Achievement panel can be accessed via the interface. While many achievements are not retroactive, we have done our best to credit as many as possible. Gamemasters will not be able to grant achievements for past accomplishements
  • Hit Rating, Critical Strike Rating, and Haste Rating now modify both melee attacks and spells.
  • All items and effects which grant bonuses to spell damage and spell healing are being consolidated into a single stat, Spellpower. This stat will appear with the same values found on items which grant “increased spell damage and healing” such as on typical Mage and Warlock itemization.
  • Items with magic school specific damage such as +shadow damage will now be converted in to Spellpower except Sunfire and Soulfrost enchants.
  • The amount of XP needed to level from 60 to 70 has been reduced by 30%.
  • The Atiesh quest chain, ZA Bear Mounts, Onyxia attunement, the old Naxxramus and the ability to gain titles from T4-T5 content has been removed.

Spell Pushback Changes.

  • When casting a spell, the first and second hit will add .5 seconds each to the total cast time while all hits afterwards will have no effect.
  • While channeling a spell, the first and second hit will reduce the duration by 25% each while all hits afterwards will have no effect.

Professions.

  • Inscription is available to train up to 375.
  • Surefooted now provides +critical strike rating instead of root and snare resist.

Dungeons and Raids.

  • All raid mobs and bosses from Kara to Sunwell have had their total health and damage output reduced.
  • Raid buffs and debuffs are now raid wide. A complete list will come in a later post.

User Interface.

  • New Calendar feature: Players will be able to access the new Calendar feature by clicking on the new icon located in the top right corner of their mini map. The calendar will track in game events, allow raid scheduling, and more.
  • Players will now be able to access their non-combat pets and mounts by clicking on the Pets tab in the Character Information Panel. NCP and mounts will be learnable by clicking their icon for the first time and thereafter will be found under the Pets tab like a spell or ability.
  • A new “Aggro” warning is now available and currently functioning in dungeons.
  • Focus Frame is now available. Players will be able to right click on any unit frame and select “Set Focus”. The focus frame will only display when the focus is set. Players may also set a “Focus Cast Key” in the options/combat panel that can be bound to shift, alt, or ctrl. When holding the focus cast key and triggering an action, the action will be performed on your focus and not on your target.
  • Tradeskills can now be linked in chat by shift-clicking the tradeskill icon.
  • Quests can be shared with party members at any distance and can also be shared by linking them in party chat.
  • Randomized daily quests can now be shared but only during the same day.
  • Macros and key bindings are now saved server-side, eliminating the need to reconfigure them on a seperate computer.
  • You can now shift-click mail to obtain all items in an envelope.
  • The updated combat log now documents overhealing, spell resists due to resistances or missing, and damage prevention due to in-game abilities such as block, Power Word: Shield, etc.
  • Various tokens such as Badge of Justice or Honor tokens are now merged in to a new Token interface and will no longer take up bag space.

PVP.

  • 2 new Arenas have been added – Dalaran and Orgimmar.
  • All buffs with less than 30 seconds remaining will be removed when the match starts. Mage’s Invisibility is the only spell not affected by this change.
  • A 5-minute counter has been added counting down the time for your PVP flag to be removed.

Part 2 will cover Shadowpriest & Warlock changes and should be posted later today!

Welcome.

Welcome to Fear.DoT.Win (hereby referred to as Fear.Win)!

This is a blog from my personal perspective in the game World of Warcraft. I currently play Horde on the Sisters of Elune RP server. I know, I know /gasp RPer!

The primary focus of this blog is to discuss issues with the 2 classes I currently play which are the Shadowpriest and Warlock, in both PVE and PVP environments. I also play a Protection Paladin but my primary focus are with the 2 casters. I have numerous 70s across 2 servers and have T4-T6 raid experience in TBC but have just recently re-rolled on the Sisters of Elune server to venture in to the RP side of WoW.

I do tend to post a lot so I’ll do my best to seperate the posts with tags, making it easier for the readers to navigate. If I do tend to do IC posts, they’ll be labeled as such so you can filter those out if you’re not interested in RP (el oh el).
